The A. H. Lundberg Associates, Inc. dedicated thermal oxidizer system has been specifically developed over the years for the harsh
environments of the pulp and paper industry. The system is designed to handle all three types of NCG including strong, dilute and stripper
off gas and to meet or exceed all environmental requirements. These units are also designed for continuous or intermittent (rapid start-up)
operation, as appropriate.
The thermal oxidizer can be designed to use natural gas or a number of different fuel oils for the auxiliary fuel. If the incinerator is
burning stripper off gas of sufficient methanol concentration, quite often no auxiliary fuel is required. The incinerator has a direct-fired
brick lined combustion chamber transitioning to a brick lined hot gas duct. The flue gases exit the hot gas duct into an exotic metal quench
vessel where they are cooled prior to the absorption tower.

The absorption tower is a spray type unit that efficiently removes the sulfur dioxide from the stack using caustic or oxidized white liquor.
In some installations where sulfur dioxide emissions are not an issue, air quench of the hot flue gas and direct dispersion to the
atmosphere via a tall stack may be an option.
The system can be controlled either from a local panel or from a central DCS system. The burner management system comes as a
pre-wired skid mounted unit approved per standard codes.
Several enhancements may be added to the system for energy or environmental reasons. Among these is a fire tube waste heat boiler to generate
200 psig steam. Another is a candle filter that removes particulate and sulfuric acid mist to a very low level for mills with extraordinary
low emission limits. Lundberg Associates' thermal oxidizer can meet all current limits for the emissions of NOx, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide,
sulfuric acid mist, TRS, VOC and particulate.
